Physalis minima and Physalis angulata, an annual herbage,belongs to Solanaceae,Physalis,they were abundant resources and widely distributed in China.The Chemical constituents of Physalis minima and Physalis angulata are complex,the main chemical constituents are steroids, flavonoids, alkaloids, organic acids ect. This article is mainly directed against physalins and withanolides,which belonged to steroids. Literature reports that steroids are main chemical costituents of Physalis plants,it had good biological activity of anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, insecticidal, anti-tumor, immune regulation, cell toxicity and mainly used to treat a cold fever, sore throat, cough phlegm, asthma etc.This article summarized the chemical constituents of Physalis minima and Physalis angulata,in addition,it also reviewed Pharmacological activities of physalins and withanolides.The chemical constituents were isolated by silica gel chromatograph-y,Sephadex LH-20 gel column chromatography,medium pressure column chromatogr aphy,and semi-preparative liquid chromatography,and their structures were elucidated by chemical properties and spectroscopic analyses.20 compounds were isolated,16 compounds were identified from Physalis minima and Physalis angulata,including 14 withanolides compounds and 2 physalins compounds. They were respectively(20S,22S)-15a-acetoxy-5β,6β-epoxy-3β,4β,14 a,23β-tetra-hydroxy-1-oxo-witha-16,24-dien-26,22-olide(X-1),(20S,22R)-15a-acetoxy-5a,6β,14β,28-tetrahydroxy-1-oxo-witha-2,24-di enolide(X-2),(20S,22S)-15a-acetoxy-5a,6β,14β,23β-tetrahydroxy-1-oxo-witha-2,24-dienol ide(X-3),Physagulin L(X-4),Physagulin M(X-5),(20S,22R)-15a-acetoxy-5β,6β-epoxy-3β,4β,14a-trihydroxy-1-oxo-witha-16,24-dien-26,22-olide(X-6),(20S,22R)-15a-acetoxy-5a,6β,14a-trihydoxy-1-oxo-witha-2,16,24-trienolide(X-8),Physagulin K(X-9),(20S,22R)-15a-aceto xy-5β,6β-epoxy-4β,14a-dihydoxy-1-oxo-witha-2,16,24-trienolide(X-10),(20S,22R)-15a-ac etoxy-,3β,4a,5a,6β,14a-pentahydroxy-1-oxo-witha-16,24-dien-26,22-olide(X-11),(20S,22R)-6β,14β-dihydroxy-5a-methoxy-1-oxo-witha-2,24-dienolide(X-12),(20S,22R)-5β,6β-epo xy-4β,14 a,15a-trihydroxy-3a-methoxy-1-oxo-witha-16,24-dien-26,22-olide(X-13),(20S,22S)-15a-acetoxy-5a,6β-epoxy-4β,14 a,15a-triahydoxy-1-oxo-witha-2,16,24-trienolide(X-15),22R-15a-acetoxy-5α,6β,14 a,20β-tetrahydoxy-1-oxo-witha-2,16,24-trienolide(X-14),physa alin D(X-7),16,24-cyclo-13,14-secoer-gost-2-ene-18,26-dioicacid14:17,14:27-diepoxy-5a,6β,13 a,20a,22β,25β-hexahyroxy-1,15-dioxo-γ-lactone-δ-lactone(X-16).X-1 、X-2 、X-3、X-11、X-12、X-13、X-14、X-15、X-16 are nine new compounds.This paper is mainly aimed at studies on chemical constituents of physalins and withanolides of Physalis minima and Physalis angulate, the experimental results basically reached the expected vision and laid the foundation of pharmacological activity research of the next step and helped people of a greater understanding of the chemical constituents in physalis plants.
