Jindenglong(Guajindeng or Hongguniang in Chinese),the sepal of Physalis alkekengi L. var. francheti (Mast.) Makino,is a common Chinese traditional medicine mostly used in traditional Chinese prescriptions. It is stated in the Chinese pharmacopoeia, Physalis alkekengil is capable of expelling toxin and heat by cooling, relieving sorethroat, and dissipating phlegm. In this thesis, the chemical constituents of the 80% EtOH extract from sepal of Physalis alkekengil L. var. francheti (Mast.) Makino were studied. Sixteen compounds were isolated by silica gel column, D101 macroporous column, Sephadex LH-20 column, ODS column chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography. On the basis of the chemical and spectral methods, the structures of 11 compounds were identified as three physalins, five neophysalins and three flavones. They are physalin D(1), physalin L(2), physalin O(3),4,7-didehydroneophysalin B(4),3 β -hydroxy-2,3-dihydro-4,7-didehydroneophysalin B(5),3 α -hydroxy-2,3-dihydro-4,7-didehydroneophysalin B(6),3 β-methoxy-2,3,25,27-tetrahydro- 4,7-didehydro-7-deoxyneophysalin A(7),3 α-methoxy-2,3,25,27-tetrahydro-4,7-didehydro-7-deoxy-neophysalin A (8), Ombuine (9), Luteolin(10),luteolin-7,4'-di-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(11). Among these compounds, compound 5 and 6,7 and 8 are two pairs of stereoscopic isomeric new compounds, and compound 9 and 11 are obtained for the first time from Physalis alkekengil L.var. francheti (Mast.) Makino. In addition, the essential oil of sepal of physalis alkekengil L.var. francheti (Mast.) Makino was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS) and sixteen compounds were identified. Fatty acids were main components in the volatile oil, among which octanoic acid...
