ObjectiveStudies on the change of alveolar bone volume in horizontal and vertical direction after the Onlay autogenous bone graft. Evaluates on the clinical outcomes of implant restoration after Onlay bone grafts and the application value of this technique in oral implantation.MethodsFive patients with dentition defects were collected from 2013 February to 2015 October in the Oral Implant Center of The Affiliated Hospital of Stomatology, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University. The risk of operation and the volume of alveolar bone were evaluated according to the oral examination and the CBCT data; then the appropriate Onlay autogenous bone graft and implant project were designed to restore the bone volume and to treat the dentition defects; finally, the bone volume change by CBCT examination after the operation was monitored.ResultThe oral examination and CBCT examination showed that the bone volume in the edentulous ridges were averagely increased by 4.1mm in horizontal direction and 3.38mm in vertical direction since five patients had accepted the Onlay autogenous bone graft operation for 6 months. Follow-up after 4-6 months showed that the implant survival rate was 100%.ConclusionThe Onlay autogenous bone graft is an effective solution to restore the moderate or the severe atrophic and defective alveolar ridges, bone volume has improved both in horizontal and vertical direction.
