Functional reconstruction of resorbed alveolar ridge is common in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Osseointegrated implant can improve the reconstructive results. In many cases, dental implants should apply in combination with onlay bone grafts. Usually, resorption is a key problem in onlay bone grafts. Intramembranous bone preserves more volumes after onlay grafting than endochondral bone does. Simultaneous implantation is helpful in preserving bone volume. Our study showed that implants used for fixing bone graft are osseointegrated after 12 week. Cranial bone shows less resorption, but its osseointegration was slow. If the healing time is sufficient, bone interface should obtain between implants and bone grafts.Coral has been used in cranio maxillofacial reconstruction for nearly 20 years. The results are satisfactory. We studied the possibility of titanium implants osseointegration with coral artificial bone. We placed the coral on the surface of mandible, and implants fixed the coral. Results revealed that coral has good bone conductivity on the surface of bone; it can osseointegrate with implants. Recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein(rhBMP-2) could increase the new bone...
