Objective:To evaluate the impact of percutaneous transluminal angioplasty(PTA) on quality of life(QOL) in patients with infrapopliteal arterial occlusive disease.Material and Method: 60 cases with infrapopliteal artery ischemia were collected and analyzed retrospectively in vascular surgery department of the Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University from January 2013 to December 2014. All patients are divided into two groups according to their therapy: Group I with only drug treatment, Group II with PTA treatment. Two groups were compared according to their clinical features, including age, gender, risk factor, preoperative ABI and VASCU-QOL score, etc. Statistical analysis was performed with a significance difference level defined at P<0.05.Result: Compared to baseline, the VASCU-QOL score of group I exhibited an improvement at 1 month and 3 months, which was significant higher than that of group II(p<0.05).But there was no significant changes compared to baseline after 6, 12,and 18 months. VASCU-QOL score of group II showed a significant improvement with the preoperative score at any time(p<0.05).Compared to group I, VASCU-QOL score of group II improved significantly in activity domain after 1, 3, 6 months(p <0.05) and exhibited an significant improvement in social domain after 1, 3, 6 months(p<0.05).However, there were no significant inter-group differences in emotional domain and total VASCU-QOL scores(p>0.05).Conclution:1. Quality of life(Qo L) should become an important medical outcome end point to evaluate the effect in patients with infrapopliteal artery ischemia.2. With regard to the infrapopliteal lesion patients,PTA is an effective therapy with minimal invasion than drug therapy in Qol results. However, as to the long-term impact of quality of life, further study should to be done to investigate in the future.
