ObjectiveTo evaluate the biocompatibility, mechanical barrier properties and osteogenesis effects of PDLLA-PLGA barrier membrane made by electrostatic spinning technology, and compare with collagen membrane. Methods18 New Zealand white rabbits were randomly divided into three groups, with 6 each group. We made two Φ7mm×3mm bone defects in each rabbit’s mandibulars. Then we respectively put Bio-Gide and PDLLA-PLGA membranes on the left and right mandibular defects of each rabbit and we randomly choose one rabbit in each group as blank control. After 4,8 and 16 weeks, the rabbits were sacrificed and the specimens were examined by naked eyes,Micro-CT,optical microscope and computerized image analysis. ResultsNo inflammation and rejection were detected and the bone regenerated actively. After 4 weeks, partly membranes degradation happened in the Bio-Gide group, but they can still work.In comparison,PDLLA-PLGA membranes seemed intact. After 8 weeks,Bio-Gide membranes continued degrading and lost their barrier properties;but PDLLA-PLGA can still work. After 16 weeks, they both disappeared. We saw no statistical significance about the percentage of newly formed trabeculae in all the three groups. Conclusion 1.The PDLLA-PLGA membrane possesses sound biocompatibility. 2.Compared with Bio-Gide membrane,PDLLA-PLGA membrane degrades more slowly and has longer barrier effect. 3.PDLLA-PLGA membrane and Bio-Gide membrane have similiar guided bone regeneration effect.
