Objectives: To evaluate the assessment effects of three questionnaires in Obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS) through comparative analysis of the Berlin questionnaire, Sleep apnea of sleep disorder questionnaire(SA-SDQ) and Modified Berlin questionnaire. Methods: Two hundred and thirty-eight inpatients or outpatients, who were treated by polysomnography(PSG) due to snoring at the Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical College from December 2013 to October 2015, participated in this retrospective study. All patients answered the Berlin questionnaire, Sleep apnea of sleep disorder questionnaire(SA-SDQ) and Modified Berlin questionnaire. Results:Apnea hypopnea index(AHI) and the lowest oxygen saturation(LSa O2)were negatively correlated in OSAHS patients. The sensitivity of the modified Berlin questionnaire was the highest(83.7%), the sensitivity of the Berlin questionnaire was 46.6%, and the sensitivity of the SA-SDQ was 68.3%. The specificities of three questionnaires were from 16.7-73.3%, and the specificities of the Modified Berlin questionnaire( 40.0%) and SA-SDQ(16.7%) were lower than that of the Berlin questionnaire(73.3%). The area under the ROC curve of the Modified Berlin questionnaire was 0.621, the area under the ROC curve of Berlin questionnaire was 0.591, and the area under the ROC curve of the Modified Berlin questionnaire was 0.942 after correction the lowest oxygen saturation and BMI.Conclusions:Compared to the Berlin questionnaire and SA-SDQ, the Modified Berlin questionnaire has the higher sensitivity and true positive rate in the assessment of patients with OSAHS, which can be used as a screening questionnaire for suspected OSAHS patients.Berlin questionnaire has a certain clinical value for the assessment of OSAHS patients. With critical values of 36 and 32 points for male and female patients, SA-SDQ has the lowest sensitivity and specificity in the assessment of OSAHS patients, therefore, the critical values will need to be corrected for male and female patients in China.
