Objective To analyze the clinical features and the prognosis of small intestinal hemorrhage. Methods We collected the clinical data of 84 patients with small bowel bleeding confirmed by pathology, all the patients were treated at the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University during January 2011 from December 2013.Results The study comprised 84 patients. The age of patients ranged from 17 to 88, the mean age was 55.5 years old. And male 48, female 36,the sex ratio was almost 1.3:1.Tumor was the most frequent cause of small intestinal hemorrhage, accounted for 61.90%(52/84)of all these cases, followed by thrombotic diseases, small intestinal diverticulum, and ulcer, accounted for 11.90%,8.33% and 5.95%. On the contrary, acute hemorrhagic necrotizing enteritis, intestinal polyps, Crohn’s disease, intestinal tuberculosis and allergic purpura were the rare causes. Tarry stool was the main form of bleeding, followed by occult blood. Abdominal pain, abdominal mass, diarrhea could been seen in these cases which were common complications of the disease. And the bleeding sites were mainly the jejunum and ileum. CT was a good diagnosis technique because of high detection rate in small intestinal bleeding, about 76.32%. Besides, it was safe and convenient. Conclusion Tumor is the major case of small intestinal hemorrhage. No special symptoms could be found for the diagnosis of small intestinal hemorrhage. We should combine the various diagnostic methods with etiology characteristic to improve the diagnostic rate.
