Pearl powder which contains a variety of biological macromolecules, as a novel biomaterial for repairing bone defects because of its degradability, high biological properties, bone conductibility and bone induction. And chitosan with excellent biocompatibility is easy to combine with other substances into composite material because of its alkalescence and electropositivity. while freeze-drying technique is a preparation method of tissue engineering scaffolds with the characteristics of conveniency, shotcut and low cost. The porosity, the degradation in vitro and the cytotoxicity of the pearl powder/chitosan porous scaffolds which prepared by freeze-drying technique were observed and tested. The results showed that the degradability of the scaffold with stabile structure is suitable, and it is conducive to the growth of cells. The bone morphogenetic protein-2/pearl powder/chitosan porous scaffolds were prepared by freeze-drying again based on pearl powder / chitosan porous scaffolds with bone morphogenetic protein-2. The mechanical property, thermostability and the cytotoxicity were tested and the results showed that the stent, had suitable cell adhesion properties, and the histocompatibility is predominant, suggesting that the stent may be used as Bone Tissue Engineering materials applied for clinical repairment for bone tissue defects.
