This article aims at analysing the reflection of national culture in the Chagall’s paintingin the perspective of painting subjects and painting language. It bases on the Chagall’stime background, religious belief and native folk art, with the method of literatureresearch and comparison and the finds of Iconology and sociology. The article contains theanalysis of the national culture of Chagall, the embodiment of national culture of Chagallpaintings(in this section, works are carefully analysed from painting subjects and paintinglanguage) and conclusion as well as prediction., namely practical significance. Theinfluence of life environment and conspicuous talented in art formed the unique paintingstyle of Chagall. When he went to France, he was influenced by lots of modernparties,such as impressionist, beasts pie and cubism. He blended the influence of modernparties in his own painting, but he always kept his distinctive style. As what Chagall said,the Russia brought him theme, while the Paris gave him light.Chagall tossed about many countries and went through kinds of tough during hislifetime. Though he went out his hometown,he was always forced to think his jewishidentity and national destiny. His paintings focus on the memory of his hometown,thedevout jewish and the metaphor and meaning of life, which became the source of hiscreative thought, making his distinctive painting style and artistic glamour.
