The northern part of Hebei Province is a calamitous area, and the great flood of1963August brought huge disaster to this area, which is the without precedent in history.According to the existing flood profiles and data in newspapers and periodicals, bysystematically combing the63·8flood disaster and its rescue, the paper finds that63·8floodis closely related to many natural factors-the abnormal climate in the summer of1963andthe heavy rainfall caused by this climate; the specific local landform and river system—andsocial factors such as weak agricultural infrastructure and irrational phenomenon in the waterconservancy construction. After the disaster, with the help of the CPC Central Committee, theNorth China Bureau and Hebei provincial government, Xingtai carefully organize the rescueand widely mobilized the people to withstand natural calamities. Area government establishedrelief agencies, developed salvage policy and carried out relief work and post-disasterreconstruction work. The relief work began from August1963and came to an end in July1964. The relief work has achieved significant results while at the same time, there are someinevitable limitations. Lessons learned from the disaster relief work can be referentialexperiences until now.
