Recently Chinese films had made great achievement and been awarded lots of prizesin worldwide film festivals. Ang Lee as the most important Chinese director in the world,he won Academy Award twice, got Golden Globe Award for the best director, andachieved Golden Lion and Golden Bear award twice. For ng Lee’s film success inBusiness at the box office and Artistic reputation in the world, he had attracted morepeople and experts to explore his films day by day. Among his research, his film’s womenimage, as an important part in his films, especially the women consciousness had lackedof studying systematicly so far.Study of women becomes an important academic research area today, meanwhile itis a new visual angle in films’ study. In this paper we try to analyze the women’ images inAng Lee’s films systematicly, and find factors affecting the women in his films as much aswe can. Here we conclude that main women in ng Lee’ films are independent andasocial, who transcend traditional women images in the inferiority and passive status,and they have self-consciousness in ng Lee’ films. For example they dare defying themasculine authority and pursuing freedom for marriage actively. Not only the expressiveauthority and body controlling, buy also the social-identity value that they try to comefrom the social fringe to the social center. All above, women consciousness respects themain women character, but it also contains conflict aspect and shows that Awakening ofWomen’ s Self-consciousness is not so easy now.The women’s character-modeling in Ang Lee’s films has some connection with AngLee’s life experience, especially the culture from the east and west. The collision andamalgamation of both culture in ng Lee’ life affect his unique understanding of womenimages. Confucian culture’s constraint for traditional order and the sexual oppression,both affect the women images in Ang Lee’s films, so some women are depressivesometimes. The individualism in Taoist culture makes Ang Lee prefer self-consciouswomen. Owing to studying and working abroad, Ang Lee is more affected by westernvalue. He confirms the importance of pursuit of freedom, and emphasizes women’sconsciousness of the female character. Women’s consciousness in Ang Lee ‘s films accords to the western feminism which insists on the equality puissance for women. Theadvancement of women’s consciousness in ng Lee’ films can not separate form thedevelopment of society, including the progress of economics and women’s status. At last,with his masculine visual angle, Ang Lee takes pity on women in his films, and he neverstrengthens the conflict between men and women but more pursues harmoniousnessbetween them.The innovation for my paper rests with the systemic research on women’sconsciousness in ng Lee’s films deeply. I try to measure the women characters under theAng Lee’s life experience and social environment and find reasons for women’sconsciousness such as ng Lee’s life experience and social effect My article tries toobserve women from the women consciousness, and wants to arouse a new thinking ofhow to creat women images in films today. At last I aspire to make our society payattention to women’s existence and development in modern times...
