Social cognition is a process and capacity to know one-self, others and the relationships between people. This knowledge will play a continuing role to people till their adulthood, and will affect their interpersonal relationships with others. The cognition of children selves, others and their interpersonal relationship are three important aspects of their social cognition development. Being one of the ways to children’s social cognition, cartoon provides the basis of the cognition of their selves, others and interpersonal relationships.The writer adopts the qualitative research way, interview eight preschoolers from a full-time middle class in A kindergarten of Beibei District in Chongqing, and take a domestic cartoon Xiyangyang and Huitailang as an example to research. The aim of this study is to find out the cognitive characteristics of these preschoolers’others and relationship cognitions, thus providing guidance for teachers and parents to accompany children to watch cartoons and offering meaningful proposals to promote children’s social cognition by taking positive advantage of cartoon.The results indicated are as follows. Firstly, the cognition of preschoolers’to the cartoon characters and their relationship is kind of direct and specific copy to the cartoon world. The children’s thinking level determines their cognitive characteristics that they mainly comprehend the nature or the things outside in specific image thinking. Therefore, the children formed a certain concept of the cartoon characters base on the character’s observed, specific characteristics and their external activities, thus being a starting point for children’s understanding to the relationships between the characters. Secondly, the cognition of preschoolers’to the cartoon characters and their relationships agrees with the cognitive psychology of children’s game. Children get lots of funs through imitating cartoon characters, experiencing kinds of experiences as the characters experienced in the cartoon and interacting with their companions. During the interactive processes with the cartoon, children will constantly expand the original understanding deeply to the cartoon characters and their relationships inward to understand and know children selves better, in the mean time, they also expand these understandings outward in order to master the extensive knowledge of the essence of the social world and understand further the broader external world. All of these facts agree with the nature of children’s game, working in concert with he psychological cognitive of children’s game. Thirdly, the cognition of preschoolers’to the cartoon characters and their relationships is a process of children’s emotion throwing into the cartoon world. Children may find a shadow of their own and their companions, easily generating empathy with the cartoon characters and the situations in the cartoon.This study is to investigate the preschoolers’cognition characteristics of the cartoon characters and their relationships. Base on this, the paper tables some corresponding proposals for teachers and parents, in a sense, riches the study field of children’s social cognition development.
