In recent years, with the development of intercultural communication betweenChina and the western countries, more and more foreign children’s literary works areintroduced into China. However, children’s literature, for a long time, does not attachadequate importance in China; therefore, few systematic studies have been carried outin this field. Since the main target readers of children’s literature are children, in thecourse of translation, translators shall take children’s language acceptance ability andpreference into consideration.Being reader-oriented, reception aesthetics greatly improves the status oftranslator and target language readers and it stresses their participation and creation inthe course of translation and understanding. This thesis is going to carry out a study byintroducing reception aesthetics into the translation of children’s literature and takingRen Rongrong’s translation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as a case study. Itapplies the methodology of theoretical explanation, case study and descriptive study. After studying the characteristics of children’s literature and analyzing Ren’stranslation from different levels, the author points out that it is feasible and proper toapply reception aesthetics in the translation of children’s literature.Upon analysis, the thesis points out that translators of children’s literature shallconcern more about children’s characteristics and then further adopt appropriatetranslation strategies to enhance the acceptability of the translted work. Theapplicaiton of reception aesthetics can not only improve the development of children’sliterature translation but aslo bring a wilder view to the tranlsation study in this field.
