The purpose of this thesis is to explore the realization of Reception Aesthetics in the translation of children’s literature by studying the translation of Under The Hawthorn Tree. Firstly, the thesis discusses two critical elements of Reception Aesthetics, namely, readers’status and horizon of expectations, which demand the translator to seriously consider readers’reception. Secondly, by studying the characteristics of children’s literature, this thesis demonstrates how to translate children’s literature with the guidance of Reception Aesthetics at different levels.Specifically, this thesis will focus on translation strategies at lexical, syntactic and cultural levels. At lexical level, the language should be colloquial to get close to the readers, and reduplication and onomatopoeia should be skillfully adopted to make the text more interesting. At syntactic level, long sentences should be avoided and attention should be paid to voice shifting. At cultural level, translators should keep in mind the cultural implication for the translation of children’s literature, and consider children’s aesthetics and reception level.
