In international trade activities, seller and buyer both may not trust each other. Buyersare worried about that after they pay sellers do not deliver the goods according to the contract.At the same time, sellers are afraid that after they deliver the goods buyers do not pay. Thus,two banks are needed to be the guarantors of both parties on be half of collection andpresentation of documents. Bank credit replaces commercial credit. The tool which bank usesis named Letter of Credit.The paper includes5parts.The first chapter is introduction. It simply describes the content structure of this paper. Itintroduces the intention and meaning of this subject, including current research on the E-Ctranslation of Letters of Credit.The second chapter is for the definition, property, function and characteristics of Letterof Credit. This chapter systematically introduces the definition, property, function andcharacteristics of Letter of Credit to make the readers have a basic knowledge about Letter ofCredit before they know its language characteristics and translation methods.Chapter three is research on the E-C Translation of Letters of Credit from languageknowledge. Analyze language characteristics and translation methods of Letter of Credit fromvocabulary, syntax, text and style with numbers of examples.Chapter four is research on the E-C Translation of Letters of Credit from cross culture.One is that from the influence of law culture on the E-C Translation of Letters of Credit, thelaw characteristics of the E-C Translation of Letters of Credit are introduced. Second, fromthe influence of English-Chinese cultural difference on the E-C Translation of Letters ofCredit, English-Chinese Letter of Credit language characteristics are contrasted.Chapter five is conclusion. This paper analyses the noteworthy points of Letter of Creditlanguage characteristics and its translation with some examples. The frequent usage of Letterof Credit and mastering Letter of Credit language characteristics and translation will give a hand to review the Letter of Credit in order to assure the smoothness of import and exporttrade. By the practice of the E-C Translation of Letters of Credit, master basic translationskills even up to the proficiency so as to understand and work on the E-C Translation ofLetters of Credit in order to reduce the economic loss resulted from misunderstanding andmistranslation.
