Fan Wenlan is a representative of Marxist Historians who has written “China’s generalhistory abridged editions”，"China’s modern history" and other works. Scholars have madesome achievements on the study of him, but the study of his change to Marxist historian israre. This paper aims to probe the specific circumstances of his change from an economist toa Marxist historian, explore the reasons and make a appropriate evaluation on the change.This paper tries to explore the history of the Chinese Marxist and historians innew-democratic revolution period as well as the Marxist history in Yan’an for understandingthe change, exploring the reasons, summarizing and evaluating the research significance ofFan’s change to Marxist historians. It contributes to the further study of Fan, helps to extendthe breadth and depth, and also promote the study of the Marxist history and its related areasin China, particularly the study of sinicization of Marxist. It is quite practically significant fortoday’s history research and criticism of Marxist in China to study his change of academicthoughts after the founding of the state, grasp the situations of his change and then make anobjective and impartial evaluation. This paper can be divided into four chapters except theintroduction and conclusion.Introduction describes the significance of the topic and the literature review of the studyto Fan Wenlan. It summarizes the previous results and shortcomings to give an objectiveevaluation and tell the structure of the paper.The first chapter,“Fan Wenlan’s initial change to Marxist historians”, tells his initialchange from four aspects, including his early academic experience, his change to arevolutionary fighter, Fan’s change from an economist to a Marxist historian, and hisanti-Japanese activities, focusing on the demonstration of Fan’s initial change in writing styleand ideas.The second chapter,"Fan Wenlan’s change to Marxist historians", sums up his situationin thc change to a Marxist historian, explores the reasons and summarize his historicalachievements in Yan’an. This paper studies the effects of Mao Zedong, Wu Yuzhang on FanWenlan’s academic thoughts, focusing on Fan Wenlan’s contribution to the sinicization of Marxist history.The third chapter,"the distinctive features of Fan Wenlan’s Marxist historians of", sumsup his self-improvement in thoughts after the founding of the nation, and stressing Fan’sprobe and contribution to Chinese ancient history and modern history after the founding ofthe nation, as well as the his further self-improvement in history research methods.The fourth chapter,"the evaluation of Fan’s change from an scribes to a Marxisthistorian", discusses the change from the three aspects, including his book mode andacademic thought, and then this paper makes an objective and fair evaluation on his change toa Marxist historian based on the positive and negative aspects.
