In China’s modern art history, there once were three periods of creation fever in oil painting creation with Tibetan theme. Oil painters during different periods have produced a large amount of excellent works with the Tibetan theme as one of the important subjects of oil painting creation. The hidden cultural implication described in the Tibetan theme has been in-depth studied and the unique culture has been manifested profoundly.In this paper, firstly by reviewing the background process for the Tibetan theme creation, the representative painters in every period were listed. And then the motivation and original belief for the Tibetan oil painting creation have been illustrated from the unique painting styles of the painters. The Tibetan oil painting characteristics and cultural meanings were not the same in different periods. This paper has divided the Tibetan oil painting creation into three periods according to the development order and has summarized the development features of these three periods by analyzing the representative painters and their works. On the basis of the above analysis and summary, this paper mainly discusses the hidden cultural implication behind these fevers. In Tibetan area, they have their own long historical culture. However, the introduction of oil painting has overturned painters’traditional understanding towards arts creation more or less. In China’s oil painting creation history, there’s no place like Tibetan area that can best manifest the creation uniqueness of Chinese oil painting and represent Chinese ethnic mark and symbol, including the unique aesthetic regional culture, mysterious religious culture, traditional ethnic culture as well as the pursuit for the humanistic spirit. At last, it has explored the future development for the oil painting creation with Tibetan theme which should reflect modernity and diversification.
