Analyzing Novels By Liu Zhen Yun Since The New Century

Liu Zhenyun has published five novels in all since2001. They arerespectively Full of Nonsense, Telephone, I am Liu Yuejin, One Wordoutweighs Ten Thousand words, I am not Pan Jinlian. Full of Nonsenseshows a super ability of talking and makes readers feel the atmosphere ofcarnival storm of speeches. Telephone and I am Liu Yuejin are made intomovies successfully and become big hits which make Liu Zhenyunknown by more people. One word outweighs ten thousand words bringsthe eighth Mao Dun prize for literature to Liu Zhenyun and after this hewrote I am not Pan Jinlian whose main character is woman that matchesthe reality and shows sufferings of the people’s livelihood.The first part of the thesis discusses full of nonsense and one wordoutweighs ten thousand words. After analyzing Full of Nonsense, we willfind out that the carnivalized world of Liu Zhenyu is built up by bestialwords, playful teasing, miscellaneous language and weird character anddual personality. One word outweighs ten thousand words shows wheretalking importance lies.The second part discusses the similarities between twonovels—Telephone and I am Liu Yuejin and movies which are based onthem. Liu Zhenyun himself took part in the job of script adaptation onTelephone and I am Liu Yuejin. The thesis analyzes how Liu Zhenyunadjusts himself to writing novels in front of the strong blows from filmand television industry and its cultures and how he draws lessons frommovies and integrates them with his novel. At last, the thesis also pointsout that Liu Zhenyun’s views on the value of film of effects on novels.The third part mainly analyzes I am not Pan Jinlian which shows theplight of civilian life and different kinds of lives through absurdity andreality.The last part concludes the development, change, and changingprocess of novel after new century.
