The Study Of Fang Dong-mei’s Aesthetics

Fang Dong-mei undoubtedly is one of philosophers and estheticians intwentieth century whose philosophy thought is abundant and profound, whichintegrates philosophical thinking and beautiful life forms from concept of lifeontology. His academic thought imbued with poetic philosophy and aestheticsby writing thought of philosophy and feeling of life in one combined. FangDong-mei is famous as "the Chinese Santa yarra ", but in chinese modernaesthetics history, we found that only a few scholars pay an attention to hisaesthetic identity and aesthetic thought. If we study in-depth aesthetic thoughtof Fang Dong-mei and give an unbiased estimate to his aesthetic thought thatwe set a status of Fang’s in modern aesthetics history of China, which is notonly conducive to the philosophy and aesthetics we grasp Fang’s, but canenrich chinese modern aesthetic system. This article intends to reveal thefollowing several aspects for Fang’s aesthetic thought：Introduction reveals the research system by introducing the study ofFang Dong-mei’s thought, clarifying research ideas,methods,the main pointsand innovations in this paper.The first chapter aims to reveal the content and features of "life" in FangDong-mei aesthetics. Author believes that Fang Dong-mei integrates westernphilosophy on life with originally Chinese Confucianism,Taoism andMahayana Buddhist, which was inspired by "life and virtue" in the "Book of Changes",and established connotation and characteristics from his lifeontology,including four aspects,namely metaphysics of life,double back oflife, love and rationality of life,universality of life.The second chapter is exploring view of art and artistic conception theoryfrom Fang Dong-mei,author holds that Fang Dong-mei combined life to theuniverse and art to form trinity view of art and comprehensively harmoniousart theory of artistic conception. This chapter focuses on explaining threeaspects of artistic conception that there are chongxu ethereal, active andvigorously vivifying.The third chapter is discussing the aesthetic thought of Fang Dong-meion the one hand from the "perfect man of character" and "prophets, poets andsages’ perspective by comparing the aesthetic thought of Fang Dong-mei withthat of Wang Guo-wei to dig out Fang Dongmei’s aesthetic ideas in shapingthe personality and the pursuit of the ideal world, on the other hand author alsocompares "the religious realm" of Fang Dong-mei and "the substitution ofaesthetic education for religion" of Cai Yuan-pei to grasp the role of FangDong-mei religious views on Aesthetic Education.Conclusion mainly is described by modern social value and implicationsFang Dong-mei aesthetics for readers.
