This thesis aims to prove its modern aesthetic value by illustrating his research focus - Yi Jing (artistic conception) - under the modern aesthetic system. Zong has based his illustration of Yi Jing on ancient arts in which it is regarded as an important category. Not only has he inherited the traditional aesthetic tendency, but also made more contribution by initially transforming the theory of Yi Jing into modernity. Such transformation is conducted on a higher historical level, and helps promote the original concept, with continuous quantitative change, renewal and rebirth of the concept. This paper explores the modern meaning of Zong, Baihua's Yi Jing Theory.Part I discusses Zong's inheritance of classical aesthetics theories, and his using western modern aesthetics for reference, especially German modern aesthetics. This part addresses what modernity contributes to the building of China modern aesthetics. Part II addresses Zong's emphasis on subjectivity in his Yi Jing Theory with two perspectives, which are focus on personal feelings and the combination of feelings and the rationals. This part places an emphasis on the meaning of his Life Noumenon Theory (Life Philosophy).Part III reveals Yi Jing with modernity that Zong desires, which is an aesthetic feeling expressed in various forms without ancient constraints.Part IV elaborates on Zong's perspective influenced by Goethe, i.e., modern art should have time spirit and be differentiated from negative and reclusive characteristics of the ancient times. These perspectives are manifested in lyric Ramble Aesthecis in Zong's Yi Jing Theory. Such theory is essential for initial development of modern aesthetics. Modern Aesthetics has not been fully developed and needs to be furthered theoretically and practically. Therefore, Zong Baihua's Yi Jing Theory is exactly what we need to learn and digest first.
