Zhu Wenying, one of the highly personalized contemporary writers, is also a uniquecharacter in literature bred in the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Hernovels depict a small world against the large background of the times, in which worldsome people are struggling to make a living. By way of describing the uncertainty inlife, that is, life is always accompanied with ups and downs, these works convey thewriters’ profound thinking on the fate of humanity, which is filled with allegoricalmeaning. Through a thorough reading and based on the grasp of basic context, thisthesis answers two fundamental questions—“what has been written” and “how towrite”, reveals the grotesque and confusing nature of works by Zhu Wenying, thenprobes into the reasons for the writer’s characteristics’ coming into being by taking thethen social background into consideration, and finally attempts to present a featuredaesthetic world by collecting puzzle pieces from the hazy and unreal discourse.This paper is divided into three parts—an introduction, the body part and conclusion.In introduction, a brief presentation of related background and research orientation ofthe writer is made, and the significance of the study is also put forward. The body ofthis paper specifically addresses the features of Zhu Wenying’s writings from twodimensions—discourse and narration, and explores the reasons for the formation of herwriting features by integrating the writer’s upbringing background and her literaryaesthetics. In the conclusion part, the value positioning of the characteristics of ZhuWenying’s works as well as the analysis of the work limitations are conducted, whichare presented in a vivid and convincing way at last.
