Simone de Beauvior (1908-1989), who is praised by Frenchpre-PresidentMitterrrand as “the most outstanding writer of France and the world”, is well-knownas one of the most important women in the20thcentury. As a vanguard of feministliterary, she has been concerned and studied by her peers and later generations. Herdistinctive feminism and innovative interpretation of women’s have a far-reachinginfluence on the development of the woman movement and feminist literary theorythroughout the world.The second sex proves to be the “bible”of feminism.In the book the second sex,Simone de Beauvior bases on existentialism and expounds her feminism thinking. Iwill summarize Beauvoir’s feminist thought in The second sex and I can analyze herfeminist thouhgt comprehensively. The thesis is composed of four main parts. Thefirst part introduce the background of her feminism and theory origin.The secondanalyse the important femininity view of the sacond sex,empasis on the concept “theother”and “femininity”,expounds the major attainments of her feminist theory. Thethird part discuss the limit of the femininity view.The last part takes up thefemininity to improve women’s status in China.
