This thesis tries to use mind mapping to help the vocational and technical college students to improve theability of learning English vocabulary. In order to research and analyze the positive effectiveness of mindmapping for the vocational and technical college students to learn the English vocabulary, this research selectsthe freshmen of Jiuquan vocational and technical college as the research subjects, and comes up with threeresearch questions: Firstly, can mind map-aided vocabulary teaching enhance students’ learning interests andmotivation? Secondly, can mind map-aided vocabulary teaching improve correct spelling rate and the number ofwords extraction? Thirdly, can mind map-aided vocabulary teaching improve students’ vocabulary memorycompared with traditional vocabulary teaching approach?About those three research questions, the author applies to the dictation, questionnaires and the papers ofEnglish vocabulary test to collect data for following discussion and analysis. The author has carried on theexperiment for about three months, and finds that they lack of learning interests and motivation, because of theirweak English foundation, strong self-abased psychology, lacking of perseverance and learning vocabularystrategies, what’s more, learning bad habits is one of important factors which lead to they just remember theEnglish vocabulary inflexible and can’t use association, so the results of learning is unsatisfactory. The resultsshow that using mind mapping can improve the vocational and technical college students’ ability in learninginterests, vocabulary spelling rate, vocabulary extraction number and learning ability.The mind mapping which this thesis discusses can make those scattered and forgettable vocabularyvisualize and logical to help cultivate students’ good learning habits, improve learning interests and motivation,at the same time, it is also helpful to improve the learning ability of the vocational and technical students,providing a good learning vocabulary method, enhancing the confidence of learning English and making richimagination to improve their scores.
