Under globalization, Chinese entrepreneurs have made greater efforts than ever totake part in global economic activities, and corporate profiles, which play the role ofglobal communication, have taken a vital position for Chinese companies to get afoothold in global competition. On the other hand, textual coherence is the criterion for content integrity, topicconsistency, and the completeness of the entire structure. With textual coherence, themeaning of texts could be correctly conveyed and properly interpreted, and the purposeof the communicating texts could also be realized. Therefore, the author believes that it is necessary to analyze and find out howtextual coherence is achieved in English corporate profiles (including the translationsof Chinese corporate profiles) so as to provide some possible clues for a betterproduction of corporate profile translations with textual coherence.Researches on textual coherence, beginning with Halliday’s Cohesion Theory, have been implemented from various angles, such as semantic, cognitive and relevanceperspectives, but study on textural coherence from Adaptation theory based oncorporate profiles has not seen many works. On the theoretical basis of AdaptationTheory, this thesis aims at revealing the influences of Adaptation Theory’s four anglesof contextual correlates, structural objects, dynamics of adaptability, and the salienceof the adaptation process on textual coherence in corporate profiles. It is the author’ssincere hope that more importance could be attached to the four angles in thetranslations of Chinese corporate profiles to realize textual coherence in the future. |
