With the development of economic globalization and China's entry into WTO, more and more Chinese companies are engaging in the fierce competition in the global market. Corporate Profile as the most important part of company's publicity material is an epitome of a corporate image, its performance, and its corporate culture and window for external communication. However, since the introduction of "corporate translatology" to the translation study in the article China Needs Corporate Translation (1992) by Liu Xiangang, corporate translatology has only witnessed two decades'development. Thus, it can be said that it is a relatively new research field. As a branch of translatology, since its introduction, corporate translatology has become a "testing field" for various translation theories. Because functional translation theory makes up for the weakness of equivalence-based linguistic translation theory and offers powerful theoretical guidance, it is most commonly used in empirical study of C-E translation of CP. However, translation researchers focus too much on Skopostheorie. Inadequate attention has been given to Text Typology Theory.Reiss and Newmark's text typology holds that text function determines text type. Although a certain text may possess multiple functions, it is the dominant function that determines text type. Based on this, Reiss and Newmark put forward corresponding translation strategies targeted at specific text types.By adopting Text Typology Theory as the theoretical framework and combining comparative and qualitative research methods, this thesis attempts to offer a new theoretical perspective to CP translation. To be specific, this thesis conducts a contrastive analysis of Chinese and English CPs with the aim of finding out their linguistic differences, thus providing a basis for translators to approach C-E translation of CPs. In addition, the case study selects C-E translated text of Jiangling Motors Co., Ltd. (JMC) CP as a case. In light of Nord's observation of source text analysis and Text Typology Theory, the author carries out an in-depth and detailed analysis of C-E translated text of JMC.Through the research, major conclusions can be drawn as follows:(1) Chinese CPs and English CPs possess similarities and differences. The differences are reflected at levels of lexicon, sentence, discourse, stylistics, and culture; (2) Text Typology Theory offers a useful basis for C-E translation practice and translation quality assessment; (3) Nord's source text analysis model provides a workable procedure for CP translation practice.
