Xue Tao was a famous female poet in Tang Dynasty. She had experienced a hard timethroughout her life. She was the daughter of a rich family and gradually sank into a prostitute.She was also sent to the borderland and suffered from a lot of hardship. However, theunfortunate experiences made her artistic talent. At that moment, She had been famous inTang Dynasty and was recognized and praised by Yuan Zhen, Bai Juyi and other literatures.As a poet, Xue Tao plays an important role in the history of China literatures. However,researches on Xue Tao and her poems is less in history. In modern times, Chinese ancientfemale literature gradually attracted widespread attention in the academic circles. Xue Taoinstitute was founded in1990. Xue Tao’s research upsurged in the schools of thought contend.So far, the research of Xue Tao has made great achievement.However, there are few researches on the great poet and her poems. By modern times,the ancient feminist literatures of China had become popular. In1990, research institute onXue Tao was set up and became a hot topic. The researches on Xue Tao had achieved greatachievements so far. However, there were few relative researches from the perspective ofCognitive poetics.Cognitive poetics is a rising theory and it can be dated back to the cognitive turn of1970s. Stockwell defines it as a discipline using cognitive sciences to discuss literature. Itincludes the image schema theory, the conceptual metaphor theory, conceptual metonymytheory and so on. Under this instructive theory, the researches on domestic literatures haveachieved much progress. Based on this, this article will attempt to apply cognitive poeticstheory to do the researches on Xue Tao’s poetry in order to get a better understanding of XueTao’s poetry achievement. Besides, the author hopes that writers, readers and works can bebetter connected through this interdisciplinary research method and can stimulate readers’cognitive thinking, which can make it easier for readers to reach the resonance so as to showits literary effect more clearly.This article is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is introduction, whichintroduces the life experiences and social situations of Xue Tao as well as the currentsituations of Xue Tao. Besides, it also discusses the cognitive poetics theory. The secondchapter is to use the schema theory to analyze the contents of Xue Tao’s poetry. Her poemsmainly include six aspects such as women’s love, acknowledging, seeing friends, presentingthe sceneries and objects, reflecting on the ancient, anti-war of frontier. Compared with thecommon attic women, the contents of her poetry was more colorful, especially the meditatingon the past and anti-war poems, which shows that her heart is filled with the country and hasher unique insights and broad minds. All these factors make her poems more dazzling. Thethird chapter is to use the conceptual metaphor theory to analyze the affection topic of XueTao’s poetry, mainly the love topic such as longing for love and sorrowful lovesickness, thefriendship topic such as deep affections as well as farewells, the motivation topic such asThey morality and unique, the patriotic topic such caring for the fate. The emotions of XueTao’s poetry is sincere and fascinating. The fourth chapter is to use the conceptual metonymytheory to analyze the artistic style of Xue Tao’s poetry. The author thinks that her poems areimplicit, elegant, graceful and delicate as well as impressive. The fifth chapter mainlyelaborates the evaluation and impact of Xue Tao’s poetry for the future generations.
