Chinese classical poetry is the gem of Chinese traditional culture,which can be discussed and appreciated from different dimensions withdifferent perspectives. However, up to now, scholars and researchers usuallystudied Chinese classical poetry from the perspectives of literature oraesthetics, etc. And few of them analyzed classical poetry from the cognitivepoetics perspective. This thesis attempts to analyze the literature reading ofChinese classical poetry with the theory of cognitive poetics, aiming atoffering a new perspective to Chinese classical poetry analysis andappreciation.Cognitive poetics is a burgeoning discipline, which benefits a lot fromthe part of the development of cognitive linguistics, cognitive psychology,together forming applications to the reading research of literary works. Itholds that literature is a kind of special express way of human daily lifeexperience, and is also a special way of the human recognizing the world.And Chinese classical poetry, as a special art of language, apparently reflectsthe conception of the world and the way the poets conceive the world. Byapplying the related theory of Cognitive linguistics and cognitive scienceunder the framework of cognitive poetics, this thesis analyzes and studies theliterature reading process and approach of some Chinese classic poetry whichare mostly selected from Tang Shi and Song Ci, which represent the peak ofclassical poetry and then gives a cognitive poetic analysis to some typicalpoems. Studying the literature reading of Chinese classical poetry from theperspective of cognitive poetics, the readers can not only explain andappreciate the beauty of classical poetry, but also explain how thatappreciation is arrived at.This thesis is divided into four parts. The first part of the thesis isliterature review. It sketches out the traditional approach to Chinese classicalpoetry analysis perspective and made a brief summary of the studies on poems from three perspectives: the aesthetic perspective, the socio-culturalperspective and the rhetorical or stylistic perspective. The second part gives atheoretical orientation to literature reading in the theory of cognitive poeticsand sums up its main characteristics. The third part makes explanations toChinese classic poetry comprehension from cognitive skills and cognitiveprocesses. The forth part based on the analysis of the first three chapters andin the Theory of Cognitive Poetics and it makes cognitive comprehension toChinese Classical Poetry with figure-ground theory, conceptual blendingtheory and script theory. And found that cognitive poetics is the not only thesurpass to the impressive aesthetic criticism in the past and because of thecognitive penetration, literary aesthetic significance is also earned furtherdigging both in theory and methods. At the same time, the new developmentof cognitive poetics also contributed to the literature in the field of cognitiveshift, which makes an improvement of Chinese Classical Poetry analysis andappreciation on the ontology.
