| The English translating of Tang poetry is a profound cross-cultural communicationactivity, and it gets many scholars' attention at home and abroad. However, most of theirstudies focus on making literary analyses and exploring translating methodologies.Though, recently, linguists have begun to make cognitive linguistic researches on it, theirresearches have some unavoidable limitations. However, cognitive poetics remedies thesedefects. It tries to apply cognitive linguistic theories to the studies of literary text with thepurpose of finding some methods to make a bridge between literary study and cognitiveresearch. Besides that, it studies the mental activities of readers during their reading, andtries to analyze reader's cognitive process under the guidance of cognitive linguistics.Therefore, this paper takes cognitive poetics as theoretical instruction, and makes ananalysis on English translations of the Romantics' poetry in the prosperous period of Tangfrom aspects of sound, structure and meaning. And it tries to make some researches onEnglish translations of some typical poems of the Romantics' poetry from three aspects:firstly, what are the differences and similarities from the aspects of sound, structure andmeaning in a Tang poem and its English translations? Secondly, what is the cognitiveprocess of translator? Thirdly, what is the essence of English translation?This paper has5chapters. Chapter1shows background and significance of research,research questions, and outline. Chapter2reviews the developments of Chinese classicalpoetry translation and its schools. And the theoretical framework is exposed. Chapter3isabout source of data and methodology. Chapter4analyzes English translations of theRomantics' poetry in the prosperous period of Tang from aspects of sound, structure andmeaning. Chapter5is conclusion, and the findings of the paper are showed:(1) Making a tentative analysis on the cognitive process of translator.(2) Tentatively discovering the essence of English translation. |
