The emphasis of translation studies shifted from the prescriptive to the descriptiveapproach after the Cultural Turn in the1970’s. The focus of study has ever since turned tothe causes underlying the formation of translation. The translator, the most activeparticipant of translation, has become the center of attention in the domain of translationstudies. However, the previous studies were mainly based on discrete perspectives astheir theoretical pillars; moreover, they were internally incoherent and unsystematic interms of discussion. There are still questions to be answered. What is the translator’ssubjectivity? How is the translator’s cognitive process when he fulfills his subjectivefunctions in translation? Are there any constraints on the realization of the translator’ssubjectivity? The thesis, based on a concept-analytical approach, addresses the issue of thetranslator’s subjectivity by taking a holistic perspective so as to discover the nature, theprocess and the effect of the translator’s performance in the real-world context ofcommunication.
