William Wordsworth is the greatest poet after William Shakespeare and JohnMilton in English literature history. Over two centuries, the researches on his poeticworks emerge endlessly and cover almost all the fields. In the realm of Ecology, somescholars have interpreted the thought of Spiritual Ecology in his works, some scholarshave analyzed the Ecofeministic thought in his works, some scholars have exploredthe thought of Deep Ecology in his works, but few scholars have interpreted AldoLeopold’s Ecological Holism in his works. By means of Leopold’s Ecological Holism, this paper intends to analyze the Thought of Ecological Holism, which is embodied inWordsworth’s major works through the exploration of his rejection ofanthropocentrism, his advocation of the preservation of nature and his support ofHolistic View. And this thesis points out that those thoughts are consistent with AldoLeopold’s Ecological Holism—the objection to man’s dominant role in land, thedeclaration of every being and the community itself’s existence, the support of holisticview that nature is a cohesive whole and human beings should regulate their behaviorswith the ethic: the maintenance of the integrity, stability, and beauty of the bioticcommunity. Thus this paper comes to the conclusion that Wordsworth is also a greatpoet who pays close attention to the interests of the whole ecosystem.
