The Spreading Of American Popular Culture In China And Its Influence On Chinese Popular Culture

Along with globalization and development of science and technology, Americanpopular culture, as well as the values it carries, is able to spread to every corner ofthe world, including China. Since1980s, along with China’s reform and opening-up,American popular culture has entered China and showed its great influences onChina through mass media and pop cultural products.Through analysis of American popular culture, the manner of its disseminationin China and the changes of Chinese life style and values under the influence ofAmerican popular culture, this thesis shows both the positive influences and impactsof American popular culture on China. The spreading of American popular cultureenriches China’s popular culture, but it also poses threats to China’s cultural securityby weakening Chinese traditional culture. This thesis proposes that to developChinese popular culture, we should learn from the successful experience of thedevelopment of American popular culture and avoid the possible impacts.
