This is a translation report of Finnish Lessons (Excerpts) exposing the education inFinland written by Pasi Sahlberg. This report discusses the translation compensationstrategies from semantic and cultural perspectives illustrated with representativeexample based on translation practice. In order to make up for a loss of a source text,the translator should understand the target text completely and know the differencesbetween source language and target language, then choose the most appropriatetranslation compensation strategy to convey the most significant meaning.This report can be divided into five parts. The first part is the introduction to theresearch background, purpose and significance of the translation project. The followingpart describes the whole translation process, covering preparation and difficulty intranslation project. Then, the author analyzes the compensation theory from home andabroad. Next part is the most significant part, which discusses different compensationtranslation strategies used in translation practice. The last part draws inspiration fromthis translation practice.
