A Study Of Yang Yi’s Chinese Translation Of Wuthering Heights From The Perspectives Of Translation As Adaptation And Selection

Wuthering Heights, written by Emily Brote in1847, features profound theme,unique narrative, and complex character, which charm readers. In this paper, the authorfocuses on Yang Yi’s Chinese translation of Wuthering Heights from the perspectives ofTranslation as adaptation and selection, which offers new methods and ways to studytranslation. It regards the overall concept of ecology as its methodology, ancientChinese ecological culture as its basic points, relationship between adaptation andselection as its research object.In this thesis, it aims to study four Yang Yi’s Chinese translation of WutheringHeights: Pingming Press in1955, Jiangsu People Press in1980, Yilin Press in1990and1997and find out that whether it can explain the existed translation and how thetranslator adapts and selects the translational eco-environment to do his best translation.In the introduction, it firstly presents the position of world culture history ofWuthering Heights and its studies in China. Then it introduces Translation as adaptationand selection’s philosophy principle, realistic significance, research status anddevelopment trend. Lastly, it presents innovation points and research method. InChapter One, it respectively studies that how the translator does adaptation andselection in translation aims, translator’s ability and translational eco-environment.InChapter Two, it studies Wuthering Heights from the perspectives of the linguisticdimension, the cultural dimension and the communicative dimension. In Chapter Three,it studies Wuthering Heights from the perspectives of the multi－dimensionaltransformation, reader feedback and the translator’s qualities. In the peroration, itconcludes the Translation as adaptation and selection ideas in Wuthering Heights.
