The thesis starts from the origin of realism, and describes the development andcharacteristics of realism briefly in different periods of China. To take time of thereform and opening-up as study background, values of Chinese realism oil paintingare discussed and studied in order to find out the development vein and tendency ofrealism oil painting in the new period, and the specific reflection of an art form valuesof mainstream realism subjects.The meaning of realism is explored from the following three aspects: the socialphenomenon, the social status and the social function.
