As a project report on English to Chinese translation based on a best-seller THE ICARUS DECEPTIONwhich is published by CITIC Publisher, this dissertation mainly describes the author’translation task focusing onchapter one and chapter two from that book. Taking the materials from those two chapters as the objects ofanalysis, this report carries forward the exploration of the writing style and genre, with a particular focus on theculture-loaded terms from the perspective of aesthetic reception theory and cross-culture communication. In thelight of the analysis on several cases of culture-loaded terms, the report highlights some relevant and practicaltranslation methods and strategies. The task process consists of pre-translation and in-translation. The pre-translation section outlines thetranslation plan and specifies the major tasks for various stages. The definition, classification and characteristicsof culture-loaded terms, the example analysis are provided in the body section. An in-depth analysis informed bythe aesthetic reception theory then follows wherein typical examples are discussed in addition to relevanttranslation strategies on culture-loaded terms. The analysis leads to the following conclusions:Translator is expected to place more focus on the relationships among language, culture and translation.Since culture-loaded terms refer to those words or phrases which convey a certain link of rich cultureconnotations or associations which may or may not be found in other languages or cultures which are alsocrucial in correct textual interpretation. As a result, more emphasis on cultural elements is called for in anaccurate translation. It is incumbent on the translator to build such an awareness and to develop strategies ontranslating culture-loaded terms that are sensitive to the centrality of vocabulary. There is a need for translator todiscuss the corresponding translation strategies and explore the effective and flexible strategies and methods. Anappropriate study on culture-loader terms can help translator cultivate his cross-culture consciousness andenhance his ability of cross-culture communication and enable them to shoulder the mission of interculturalcommunication.
