C-E Translation Strategies Of Culture-loaded Terms In Yongshun Laosicheng

This paper selects the English translation of YongshunLaosicheng as analysis object. The source language materials is an informative tourist text, which characterized by its own Chinese language features with a variety of culture-loaded terms. There are great numbers of place names, personal names, reign titles, literature quotations and allusions appearing in the text, such as “Laosicheng”, “the 4th year of the reign of Emperor Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty” and “Laosicheng characterized by thriving and prosperous scene with dense population”, all of which are the key issues that need to be addressed in the process of translation.Therefore, this paper firstly analyses the definition and language characteristics of cultural-loaded terms. Then it discusses the classification of cultural-loaded terms on the basis of its content and features, which reveals the feasibility of studying on cultural-loaded terms in the text. It goes on to present a detailed overall combining of cultural-loaded terms in YongshunLaosicheng and illustrate the principles that should be followed in the process of translating cultural-loaded terms. Lastly, it focuses on exploring the Chinese-English translation strategies of cultural-loaded terms in YongshunLaosicheng. There are four translation strategies suggested to be applied in the text, such as transliteration, literal translation, free translation and annotation. It proves that the adapted translation strategies have made an effective guidance to the translation of cultural-loaded terms in YongshunLaosicheng and also attaches a great significance to spread traditional culture.
