A Survey Of The Chinese Foreign Language Anxiety Of MTCSOL Students In China

The main purpose of this study was to investigate the Chinese foreign languageanxiety experienced by foreign postgraduate students studying on MTCSOL programsin China. Using a16-item CFL anxiety scale and a background questionnaire，thisstudy solicited137valid responses from universities across China. It was found thatforeign postgraduate students are not very anxious on average in their Chinese classesand that they tend to be more worried about reading and writing than speaking andlistening. It was also found that Chinese foreign language anxiety of postgraduatestudents is not significantly correlated with their gender，age，year of study，Chineseproficiency level，motivation，expectation of exam score and ethnicity. Pedagogicalimplications and limitations of this study were also discussed.
