Living in the end of the nineteenth century, in the face of the status quo,that the Classical Literature was gradually declining and on the contrary theNaturalistic Literature was thriving day by day, Stefen George, who was influencedby Nietzsche, neither went with the stream, nor gave up the dreams. Instead, he usedpositive the experience of French Symbolism and learned from the great masters ofFrench Symbolism. He opened the period of German Symbolism and his creatingfield of the pure art. He persisted in running after the pure art and the beauty. He wasopposed to the Naturalistic Literature. He managed to establish the magazine named“The Page of Art”, initiated the idea “art for art”, and wrote a great number ofexcellent poetic works. Around the poet and the magazine were many elites fromGermany ande Austria gathered, who had the same dream and pursuit. So was “TheGeorge’s Circle” formed. He was also praised as the great master, who revived theGermang poetry in the nineteenth centuary. He had a large number of collections ofpoems.Although these works were written by George in different periods, they have alsosome commen points, which reflect the artistic ideas and missions of him. In thisarticle is the historical background of the poet introduced at first, which is named thetime of belief crisis, in order to make it clear, how the artistic opinion of Georgeformed. Next, the poet’s artistic ideas, production process, main works and the majorcharacteristics of his works are stated. Then is the focal part of the article. In this partare the aesthetic images in George’s poetry,their artistic value and the sense ofmaking them stated. And the result comes, that the poems’ aesthetic images of StefenGeorge are very various, most of which are religious, natural sceneries and virtual orsymbolistic. Moreover, all the aesthetic images have great artistic value andsignificance. They not only reflect the historical background, express the poet’sfeelings, but also make his figuer of mental figter warrior stand out. At last, the great influences and high evaluation of the poet George and his poetries are listed andstated. All above makes a point that the great German poet Stefen George, his worksand all his contribution to the German Poem have profound and lasting influence.Then this article is full of great meanings.
