The Study On The Specificity Of Emotion Autonomic Nervous Response Patterns

Objective: To investigate the features of autonomic nervous system among different emotions．Methods:111participants were randomly divided into three groups, and motivated sadness, disgust, anger, fear, happiness and a neutral state by pictures, sounds, film segments. Emotional typ and strength were identified by emotions questionnaire; Some parameters of the autonomic responses were record through10-channel biotrace instrument.Results:(1) Pictures could successfully induce all of the target emotions, sounds and films could induce all target emotion except angry. The activation effects of three materials were compared and listed as followed, sadness: films＞pictures; sadness: films＞pictures＞sounds; fear and disgust: films＞sounds＞pictures, happiness: sound＞film＞picture.(2) Physiological parameter results showed that pictures could only obviously impact on the respiratory amplitude; sounds stimuli produced common trends among all of the five basic emotions and neutral state; films stimuli produced emotional main effect of skin conductance、respiratory rate and heart rate variablity，among which of them, the decrease of skin conductance and respiration rate was the specific parameter of happiness.（3）The results of repeated measures analysis revealed that parts of parameters in all emotional autonomic nervous response motivated by pictures, sounds and films showed the main effects of time with the same change in trend; while the trend of those parameters in the same emotional autonomic nervous response motivated by three different stimulus materials were not completely concordant.（4）The scatter diagram of nervous response pattern results demonstrated that, when stimulated by picture, the autonomic nervous response pattern of sadness, anger, disgust, and neutral state was co-activation, the autonomic nervous response pattern of fear and happiness was multi-pattern；when stimulated by sound, the autonomic nervous response pattern of all six emotions was co-inhibition; when stimulated by films, the autonomic nervous response pattern of sadness, disgust and happiness was co-inhibition, the autonomic nervous response pattern of fear was co-activation, the autonomic nervous response pattern of anger was multi-pattern.Conclusions: The emotion autonomic nervous response pattern stimulated by pictures may overlapped.The emotion autonomic nervous response pattern stimulated by sounds has no difference. The emotion autonomic nervous response pattern stimulated by films may be specific, while specificity remained unclear.
