"Armymen's mental quality"means the stable, basic, which is based on the physiological condition, takes personality as its core, reflects fortitudinous ability, and is formed by the interaction between individuals and the military-social environment. Armymen's mental quality is the core of individual quality, and it plays an important intermediary and central role. Studying armymen's mental quality is a realistic topic of the new situation in the Construction of the Army, it also is the inherent requirement of people-oriented Philosophy of the army construction and administration, it is one important way of strengthening the combat effectiveness and cohesiveness, it is one theoretical orientation of Military Psychology. Researchers have discussed the concept of armymen's mental quality, formation and revision of evaluating tools, and construction of the norm and evaluating criterion systematically with qualitative and quantitative methods. Study on armymen's mental quality in china was initiated in 1980's. Based on the different theoretical background and emphasis, researchers have discussed the concept of armymen's mental quality, formation, evaluating, characteristics, and correlativity of related fields. As a special group with Special Mission, armymen faced with more complex stressors, they are subjected to have the negative emotions. So, it is important for them to maintain mental health with good emotion regulation. A number of studies suggest that emotion regulation is an intermediate link between emotional stimulus and emotional reactions, and it can modify emotion process, subjective feelings and physiological reaction. It is important for them to maintaining emotional balance, social adjustment, and mental health. This study analyzed the effect of emotion regulation types on the activities of the diverse autonomic nervous system of armymen during different emotion stimulates from the neurophysiology perspective. The purpose of this study was to provide physiological evidence for seeking for reliable armymen's emotional management types and mental health education. The outcomes and conclusions of this study were described as follows:1. Armymen with high, medium and low levels of mental quality had significant differences in the using of emotion regulation types among with different genders, ages, educational levels, length of military service and military ranks.2. The total score and scores of each dimension of armymen's mental quality were significantly correlated with each of the four types of emotion regulation. Armymen with all levels of mental quality had significant differences in using of emotion regulation types. There were differences of using of cognitive-focus among armymen with all levels of mental quality; In the using of cognitive-focus: low mental quality>moderate mental quality>high mental quality. In using of affect-appeal, behavior-restraint and self-comfort: high mental quality>moderate quality>low quality.3. Behavior-restraint significantly increased the sympathetic nerve system activation of the armymen with low mental quality, and significantly decreased the sympathetic nerve system activation of the armymen with high mental quality; Under pleasure, behavior-restraint failed to down regulate the target emotion and the arousal, however.Under sadness and fear, behavior-restraint decreased the target emotion of the armymen with high mental quality, and it significantly delayed the resilience of the sympathetic nerve system activation of the armymen with low mental quality.4. Affective-appeal significantly increased the sympathetic nerve system activation of pleasure in armymen with high and low mental quality, and significantly increased the sympathetic nerve system activation of fear and sadness in low mental quality armymen. Affective-appeal significantly enhanced the arousal of pleasure, and significantly attenuated the target of sadness and fear of the armymen with high mental quality. Affective-appeal significantly enhanced the resilience of the sympathetic nerve system activation of happiness in armymen with high mental quality, and those of fear and sadness in armymen with low-level mental quality.5. Cognitive-focus significantly enhanced the sympathetic nerve system activation of pleasure in armymen with high mental quality, and significantly enhanced the sympathetic nerve system activation of fear and sadness in armymen with low mental quality. With respect of subjective experiences, cognitive-focus significantly heightened the arousal of pleasure in armymen with high mental quality, and significantly promoted the dominant of fear and sadness. Cognitive-focus significantly enhanced the resilient time of sympathetic nerve system activation of pleasure in armymen with high mental quality, and those of fear/ sadness in armymen with low mental quality.6. Self-comfort significantly enhanced the sympathetic nerve system activation of pleasure in armymen with high and low mental quality, and significantly attenuated the sympathetic nerve system activation of fear/sadness in armymen with low mental quality. With respect to subjective experiences, self-comfort significantly promoted the dominance of pleasure in armymen with high mental quality, while reduced the valence of fear/ sadness.Self-comfort significantly enhanced the resilient time of the sympathetic nerve system activation of pleasure in armymen with high mental quality, and those of fear/ sadness in armymen with low mental quality.7. Under neutral, self-comfort significantly increase the sympathetic nerve system activation of the armymen with medium mental quality. The emotion regulation types of armymen with all levels of mental quality showed no significantly differences on subjective ratings of emotion.8. Under pleasure, Behavior-restrain, affective-appeal, cognitive-focus and self-comfort significantly increase the sympathetic nerve system activation of the armymen with low mental quality; Behavior-restrain significantly increases the valence of the armymen with low mental quality.Behavior-restrain, affective-appeal and cognitive-focus significantly increase the sympathetic nerve system activation of the armymen with medium mental quality; Affective-appeal and cognitive-focus significantly increase the target emotion of the armymen with medium mental quality.Behavior-restrain and self-comfort significantly increase the sympathetic nerve system activation of the armymen with high mental quality; Types of emotion regulation had no effects on subjective experience in armymen with high mental quality.9. Under fear, Behavior-restrain, cognitive-focus and self-comfort significantly increase the sympathetic nerve system activation of the armymen with low mental quality; Self-comfort significantly increases the arousal of the armymen with low mental quality.Types of emotion regulation had no effects on the sympathetic nerve system activation and subjective experience in armymen with medium mental quality.Self-comfort significantly increase the sympathetic nerve system activation of the armymen with high mental quality; Cognitive-focus and self-comfort increase the valence of the armymen with high mental quality.10. Under sadness, Affective-appeal, cognitive-focus and self-comfort significantly increase the sympathetic nerve system activation of the armymen with low mental quality; Behavior-restrain, affective-appeal and self-comfort significantly increase the arousal of the armymen with low mental quality.Types of emotion regulation had no effects on the sympathetic nerve system activation and subjective experience in armymen with medium mental quality.Self-comfort significantly increase the sympathetic nerve system activation of the armymen with high mental quality; Cognitive-focus and self-comfort increase the valence of the armymen with high mental quality.
