This paper analyzes two narrative clues in the construction of a new literary historyof Taiwan written by Chen Fang-ming in the perspective of New Historicism. ChenFang-ming highlights modern factors in the process of development in Taiwan’s newliterature by attention from colonial modernity, post-modern liberal tradition andcontroversy aspects. Then discusses the impact of nativism on Taiwan’s new literature.Through analysis on "New Literary History of Taiwan" and related works written byChen Fang-ming, you can see Taiwanese nativism, modern and post-colonial theory,etc inherited in history conception of New Taiwan literary,Affirmed the important ofthese theories for Chen Fang-ming macro-historical construction, but also saw the gapbetween the theory construction and literary and political facts that causingcontradictions and conflicts in the writing of Taiwan new literary history. Therebyexposing the compromise nature of the grand narrative. New Historicism literaryadvocates to analysis how literary discourse participating in "circulation" and"turnover" of social ideology and establishing the process of a variety of literaryimagination. Starting from New historicism, this article reviews the construction ofNew Literary History of Taiwan and some related academic research. Finally, we candraw a conclusion about Chen Fang-ming`s history conception of New Taiwanliterary and the construction of literary subjectivity through the friction betweenindigenous Taiwanese literature and the development of literary modernity. The Coresubjectivity of Taiwan literary does not necessarily lie in China or Taiwanconsciousness of consciousness, nor attributed to the colonial or post-modernism. Ifwe want to return to the complexity and rich truth of literary history,the right way isnot a "capitalized history",but lowercase plural ones.
