Since the beginning of the21stcentury, the going-global of Chinese culture hasbecome a hot topic, especially after2012when Mo Yan became the first Chinesewriter who occupied a position in the list of Nobel Prize winners of literature. How toget Chinese culture voice itself out in the world has also become the research topic formany scholars. As a saying goes,“History is the best lesson to learn about the future,”if we can make an analysis on the history of Chinese exotropic translation activities, find out and summarize the experiences of the past, we will learn a lot from it.Drawing on the past experiences, it is believed that Chinese culture will enjoy a moreeffective way to go global.Against this background, this thesis takes the translation activities of Lu Xun’sworks by Chinese Literature as the research objects and Lefevere’s Rewriting Theoryas the theoretical framework, making an analysis of more than30years translationhistory of Lu Xun from the foundation of PRC to1980s. Putting the translationactivities in the cultural context, this thesis tries to analyze the influence exerted ontranslations by cultural factors from a diachronic perspective, and to find out thetranslation and rewriting model of Chinese exotropic translations. The thesis consists of6chapters. Chapter1is a basic introduction of thebackground, objects and significance of this research. Chapter2is a theoreticalframework of this thesis. Chapter3is the literature review. Chapter4and Chapter5are the most important parts of this thesis. Chapter4shows the readers several imagesof Lu Xun in Chinese Literature, and explains the reasons behind theseimage-building. Chapter5explains how these images of Lu Xun are built andrewritten from two aspects: rewritings at the linguistic level and rewritings beyond thelinguistic level. Chapter6is the conclusion of the research. The findings andlimitations of this research are addressed in this part. Based on the research of this thesis, it is found out that the translation activitiesof Chinese Literature are source-culture-oriented and they are greatly influenced byfactors in source culture system, such as, ideology, patronage, professionals andpoetics. Rewriting is an objective reality of translation activities, and translations withrewritings are the translation models of Chinese exotropic translation. Rewritings canbe both rewritings at the linguistic level and beyond the linguistic level. And in thecase of this research, rewritings beyond the linguistic level are more powerful thanthose at the linguistic level, which can be counted as a good example to show theinfluence of cultural factors on translations.
