Binyang Li is one of the most famous Chinese-American composers whom active inthe international music realm. He always sticks to his own artistic style and activelycarries out various explores at the matter of “musical nationalization”.In this thesis, Binyang Li’s Erhu Concerto ‘Totem’ as the research object, the text isdivided into four chapters. ChapterⅠis "Totem" and "Totem", introduction "Totem"cultural content, analyzing expressions of southwest traditional music cultural in thepiece, and brief summary the concept of Minimalism and “Centrosymmetric” in thepiece. Chapter Ⅱ, I analyze the music structure of the piece. Chapter Ⅲ isorganization and development of the pitch material, discussed organization anddevelopment model of pitch materials in side of longitudinal and transverse. ChapterⅣ is the form of timbre and texture, observed the band (Erhu and Bass as animportant timbre) writing style of texture.The author’s point of view as much as possible from the creation, combined withsubjective experience of this piece’s sound, attempt to summarize the overall creativefeatures of Binyang Li, in order to restore the creative process of "Totem".
