In the "three Song" in The Book of Odes, there are many animal totems and plant totems, and the bird totem, dragon totem and horse totem are the typical ones.Studying The Book of Odes from the point of view of musical archaeology and music philology is an important research method which is not paid much attention to by scholars at present.Combined with the analysis of literature and archaeological images, this paper analyzes and expounds the totem music and dance involved in the "three song" The Book of Odes of the Pre-Qin period, which can promote the musicology research of The Book of Odes.In the primitive tribal period in ancient China, totem was an early religious phenomenon which was gradually formed to worship the ancestors, nature and the gods as people were restricted by social productivity and scientific and cultural level at that time, and fighting against nature and adapting to it.This early religious phenomenon, called "totem" by western scholars, also existed and developed in China for a long time.In the period of the Shang and Zhou dynasties, with the further development of the state and the social hierarchy, totem worship, the early religious phenomenon, increasingly existed in the way of the state system, and gradually became ritual and standardized. With the renewal of totem music and dance in sacrificial activities, the embryonic forms of poetry, music, dance and others gradually appeared in the Shang and Zhou dynasties. Therefore, from the perspective of totem culture, the article intends to analyze the "three song" texts of The Book of Odes, and observes the local characteristics of music culture development in Shang and Zhou dynasties from the musical attributes of totem music and dance. The main contents are the martial arts thought and the large-scale ancestor sacrifice activities. And the existence of music in the overall process of totem culture development during Shang and Zhou dynasties originated from the collective dance and the appearance of ancestor worship rituals. The totem of Shang Dynasty is relatively single, and the Western Zhou Dynasty presents a variety of totem views through the integration of totem culture through the system of rites and music. In addition, from the relationship between totem worship and early art,the connection between totem and poetry originates from the standardization of totem belief in primitive religious concepts under the background of ancient sacrificial rites. At the same time, totem is inseparable from the long-term existence of totem in the primitive tribal society of our country.Through the totem sacrifice in Shang and Zhou dynasties, the totem music dance produced mainly includes: Wan dance, martial dance, holding feathers and knifes, etc. The unique spiritual connotation of the totem dance in The Book of Odes reflects the barbaric fervor of the concept of "Shang Song" totem sacrifice.Under the system of rites and music in Zhou Dynasty, the totem music and dance of Zhou Song has certain obscurity and synthesis.
