A Report On Translating Introduction To Cultural Scenic Spots In Hongtong County

China is a country with multi-culture and complex geographical environment which aregreat appeal to foreign visitors. Meanwhile, with the Olympic Games and Shanghai WorldExpo successfully held, tourism, being the tertiary industry in China, has been anunprecedented development. Tourism translation is an intercultural activity with the functionof guiding and transferring the message. Therefore, during the translation, the author not onlypays attention to the visitors’ mental factors, but also focuses on the precise expression of thesource text. Tourism translation has been an effective media and plays a vital role in differentcultures around the world, especially for the tourism advertisement, the translation of thescenic spots and the guidance translation. Intercultural communication theory plays the role ofthe guidance in this process. After reviewing the related literature, the author finds that mostscholars have focused on the theoretical research in recent years, but few of them have studiedthe translation of local features. Besides, the local culture translation plays an important rolein the process of understanding Chinese culture, and the translation of local cultural landscapeis increasingly significant in spreading the Chinese culture.Hongtong County has abundant cultural landscape, like the Grand Scholar Tree Garden,Su-san Prison，Guangshengsi Temple. However, the translation for the scenic spots needs tobe improved and optimized. Otherwise, the foreign visitors’ understanding of the specialcultural landscape might be influenced. The author, as a native in Hongtong County, bears theresponsibility of presenting the high quality translation materials to the foreign friends.Therefore, the author collects the relevant texts (the Chinese version and the previoustranslated version) and retranslates the original text, hoping to spread the outstanding localculture. In the report, the author takes the Grand Scholar Tree Garden as an example andanalyzes the translation principles and methods from the perspective of the inter-culturalcommunication. Considering intercultural communication theory and different problems, theauthor not only highlights the prominent Chinese culture, but also achieves the purpose ofeasy understanding.In the translation process, the author summarizes specific methods of C-E tourismtranslation, such as integration and split of the sentence, substitution and conversion. Theauthor also analyzes the core underlying meaning of the cultural scenic spots and concludesthe problems encountered in the translation, like the name of the famous scenic spots. Thereport is expected to provide a beneficial reference for the study and practice of translatinglocal tourism texts.
