A Dream of Red Mansions and the poetry of the Tang Dynasty are pearls of ancient Chinese literary fiction and poetry. Although each dynasty’s literature has its own style, Tang poetry has significant influence on later literature. A Dream of Red Mansions, as a piece of Qing dynasty literary work, has also been affected by Tang poetry. During the creation, Cao Xueqin has also been affected by Tang poetry, which can be seen directly from the referenced Tang poems in A Dream of Red Mansions. This study take the referenced Tang poems as the research object, trying to explore A Dream of Red Mansions, which quotes Tang poems and why they are referenced. Referenced Tang poems had poetic flavor. By relating the academically acceptable Tang poems in A Dream of Red Mansions, to the research objects, referenced Tang poems, this article tries to explore the reason why A Dream of Red Mansions quoted Tang poetry, and to explore its inherent laws. In addition, this article also discussed the function of referenced Tang poems in expressing feeling and embodying poetry by Poeticizing A Dream of Red Mansions, which makes it possible to write an article using these reasons and inherent laws.The referenced Tang Poems which come from the A Dream of Red Mansions are the research objects. A Dream of Red Mansions has poetic flavor and the poetic flavor makes the referenced Tang poems to go with the flow.These referenced Tang poems are not quoted at random, but follow the inherent laws. These inherent laws not only have close relationship with Cao Xueqin’s personal qualities and personal characteristics, but also have close relationship with the characters, plot, and related environment in the A Dream of Red Mansions. So this paper is divided into two parts, the first part (chapter one) explores the poetic flavor shown in A Dream of Red Mansions created by referenced Tang poems, which can also be regarded as a reference to the poetry and poetic imagery of the Tang Dynasty. By exploring the poetry, it becomes possible and necessary for A Dream of Red Mansions to quote Tang Poetry. The second part (chapter two and three) explores the inherent laws of The referenced Tang poems from A Dream of Red Mansions and its artistic features. These inherent laws take care of Cao Xueqin’s personal qualities and characteristics, and show the artistic characteristics. The beauty of poems, which makes some elements of poetry, such as referenced the Tang poems, authors of the referenced Tang poems, and cited in the poetry of the Tang Dynasty poetry, and imagery, have an organic integration with the characters, plot, and the environment involved in A Dream of Red Mansions. The referenced Tang poems integrate with A Dream of Red Mansions organically.The first chapter discusses A Dream of Red Mansions and the poetic embodiment of Tang Dynasty poems. This poetry appears in every stage of A Dream of Red Mansions; but in order to illustrate the problem, this paper focuses on two points, one is the name of the novel, and the other is the theme of the novel. The title has been analyzed by many researchers, who have reached a basic conclusion that the title is from the poems of Tang Dynasty, but from which one is still controversial. The image of Red Mansions has also a variety of meanings in the poems of Tang Dynasty, and related images related with this title are basically from poems in late Tang Dynasty. A Dream of Red Mansions, as a tragic fiction, has something in common with Tang poetry in late Tang Dynasty, especially in the desolate atmosphere. The theme of the novel can be concluded in three key phrases——"Write a biography of women","human sympathy" and "Buddhist view on existence and nothing".The referenced poems of the Tang Dynasty are mainly about the poetic activities in Grand View Garden. Besides, referenced Tang poems are substitutes which are representative of Cao Xueqin and the characters in the novel. Cao Xueqin is not only behind the characters in the novel, but also behind the cited poems; novel’s characters are not only the represent of the poems, but also the represent of cited poems. In addition, the poets of the cited poems are also the represents of the subject of the poems. All of these relations will be stated in this section. This section attempts to analyze the feature of represent’s represent in the referenced Tang poems from A Dream of Red Mansions so as to reveal the link between Tang poetry and A Dream of Red Mansions, and all kinds of poetic expression.In chapter two, Tang poems are separated into four periods:early period, flourishing period, middle period, and late period; there is no Tang poems introduced from early period. But Cao Xueqin did not give up showing poetry from the angel of early Tang Dynasty poems. He expressed feeling by introducing early Tang Dynasty poems, which can be regarded as a significant feature when distinguishing referenced Tang poems from the angle of time. The Tang poems, appeared in the flourishing, middle and ending period are all introduced in A Dream of Red Mansions; poems from these three periods and A Dream of Red Mansions have something in common in poetic expression, so the poems from these three periods are quoted by Cao Xueqin in their own style. However, the expression of the "Xingxiang"(expressing feeling with specific things) in the flourishing period of referenced Tang poems from A Dream of Red Mansions can be extended to the middle and late Tang Dynasty. Poetry in late Tang Dynasty quoted by Cao Xueqin all focused on the feelings "Xingji"(Take the initiative to understand and expressing feeling with specific things), which makes referenced Tang poems in A Dream of Red Mansions and the creation of Cao Xueqin have the similar purpose. At the same time, this kind of feeling "Xingji" has also created the multilayer poetic artistic conception.In chapter three, artistic characteristics of referenced Tang poems from A Dream of Red Mansions are discussed. The way of feeling expression of referenced Tang poems in the A Dream of Red Mansions is shown in the "the images of sound" and "picturesque poetic image", which has close relationship with Cao Xueqin’s personal qualities. Cao Xueqin loves music and painting, so he gives more attention to the referenced Tang poems in "the images of sound" and "picturesque poetry image". He pays attention to expressing the emotion implication by showing his feeling using some specific things; in addition, he pays attention to characters’poetic way of life and the tragic poeticizing ending. Cao Xueqin is interested in music and painting, so the poetry of the Tang Dynasty is mainly involved in the "sound" and "painting", which can be regarded as the artistic characteristics rule of the referenced Tang poems in A Dream of Red Mansions. In addition, his personal emotion is introduced to show "sound image" and "painting". These characteristics are also related to the original poets of the referenced Tang poems, which makes the Tang poetry emotion expression and A Dream of Red Mansions’emotion expression have many things in common. Based on the referenced Tang poems, the poems and poetic imagery are all introduced by Cao Xueqin, when he discussed the artistic characteristics.In short, the referenced Tang poems from A Dream of Red Mansions is linked to many elements, such as the Title in A Dream of Red Mansions, the expression, the characters in this novel, the plot, environment, Cao Xueqin’s personal qualities, and the feature of Tang Dynasty poetry itself that expresses emotion using some related things. These elements are a unified whole, which shows the "poetic flavor" in A Dream of Red Mansions in relation to one another.
