Li Chendong And A Dream Of Red Mansions

A Dream of Red Mansions is the most renowned,most widely circulated and published ancient Chinese classic novel.The comments on it have also been increasingly heavy and complicated since its inception.However,among numerous critics,Mr.Li Chendong,as a remarkable modern and contemporary expert in ancient literature of China,has excellent achievement in studies on a dream of red mansions.His book Study of a Dream of Red Mansions used the research methods of comparative literature to interpret A Dream of Red Mansions from the western literary theory,became one of the most important redology works in that period.But except for the Study of A Dream of Red Mansions,his other works has not been published in Mainland China.This paper suggests that,Li's research methods of focusing on the author's eyes to comment on and understand the works also still has the academic vitality for modern and contemporary redology research.In this paper,there are four chapters.The introduction is on thesis topic selection basis,research status and research contents.Chapter One,Cao xueqin in the eyes of Li Chendong,is Li's new exploration on Cao Xueqin's personality,era of composition and the outlook on life.Li has analyzed the reason of Cao Xueqin authoring the book through the living environment of Cao Xueqin and his family history.Li has also expounded the characteristics of the era from the era background and concluded that Cao Xueqin is artistic,philosophical writer.Chapter Two specifically analyzes Li's works from the main characters,the world of A Dream of Red Mansions,and discussion of artistic value system of A Dream of Red Mansions and Li's research ideas and methods for the redology.In the main characters,Li mainly has analyzed Jia Baoyu,Lin Daiyu,Xue Baochai,Wang Xifeng,Ji Yucun and Xue Pan six characters he thought have time characteristics.The world of A Dream of Red Mansions discusses Li's specific opinion for the family,education,politics and law,marriage,social,religious and economic view in the book.By discussing and analyzing the redology view of Li Chendong,in Chapter Three,this paper will discuss Li's study for the artistic value of A Dream of Red Mansions mainly from the character,structure,style and emotional performance and analyze the contribution of Li's research in A Dream of Red Mansions with gain and loss.In the forth chapter,“pros and cons about Li Chendong's viewpoints of redology” is going to discuss both sides of Li's research.His contribution is based on the confirmation of the status of A Dream of the Red Mansion,the comment on the book's artistic value,and the inherit and development of the new redology group.Within these contributions,the debate between Pan Chonggui and Li Chendong is very important.Of course,Li's research also has some drawbacks,but they don't effect Li's status.
