Mo Yan is an important writer in Chinese contemporary literature history, there are four novels having been adapted into movies.Two of them are successful:1.<Red sorghum>(won the Golden Berlin Bear, directed by Zhang Yimou)2.<Warm>(won the Gold kylin award in Tokyo International Film Festival, directed by Huo Jianqi).There are also two disappointing works:1.<White cotton>(created for Zhang Yimou and then was adapted by Li Youqiao,a Taiwanese director)2.<Happy time>(it is the second collaboration with Zhang Yimou but it is so different from the original after adaptation).The research on film adaptation of Mo Yan’s novels has certain foundation but there are some faultiness such as only in the view of film director, having no attention to Mo Yan’s adapted attitude and the influence on his writing. Based on the research results, This paper aims to start from the text of the novel and contact the film to regard Mo Yan’s film adaptation as a whole. In the first chapter of the thesis, it focuses on the analysis of feature of image factors existing in Mo Yan’s novels and its formation. In the second chapter,it talks about the success or failure in film adaptation of Mo Yan’s novels based on specific cases and how the spiritual essence in Mo Yan’s novels is expressed by the film. Exploring the relationship and difference between film and literature creation system and the difference between the psychology of audience. In the third chapter,it illustrates the influence on movies by Mo Yan’s novels and the reason why Mo Yan’s novels can attract director and many audience.It helps us understand how to retain their own characteristics and advantages of verbal art and enhance the influence with the help of media.
