Krishan Chander is the representative writer of the Indian Progressive Literary Movement. His novels inherit the spirit of this movement. His comprehensive and profound humanism embody the focus on human which is the main character of progressive literature. Chander’s humanism mainly lies in the following aspects:the appeal of human rights, the thinking of Indian culture, and the all-round creation method, which shows the miserable reality of the people living at the bottom of the society, whose living rights are being deprived, and uncovers the inequality of the society, as well as all kinds of problems in it. Meanwhile, Chander inherits the progressive idea of the progressive movement, which maintains writers should help poor people get the real living rights and material benefits by means of socialism. The most important point of Chander’s humanism is to unearth the change of humanity in the abnormal society. He always put persons into some unbalanced environment, describing how the society brings in the influence, change and damage to them. But the progressive idea of Chander make him full of hope to the future of human and humanity. He regard humanism as the means of breaking throuth, using the concept of love to eliminate the dark and foul reality of the society.Chander’s progressive idea is based on socialism, searching for the solution of social problems. But his humanitarian thoughts are mainly originated in the traditional culture of India, from spiritual aspect, to save the lost humanity. Because both of them belong to different method systems, there will inevitably exist contradiction between them. As a result, the works of Chander trap into a progressive plight, which in turn makes his works diverge from the realistic logic and living experience, worse still, lost the works’ depth in thinking.
